Beltrami is a small neighborhood that is just minutes from downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and The Quarry retail center—making it easy for residents to get to jobs, shopping, and entertainment.  Beltrami Park is a neighborhood centerpiece and is home to a playground, bocce ball courts, soccer and softball fields, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court and a basketball court. Like other neighborhoods in northeast Minneapolis, many artists have set up studios in Beltrami and the neighborhood offers good housing values. The southwestern portion of the neighborhood is largely industrial and while the remaining portions are residential.

History

Beltrami neighborhood and park are named after Giacomo Constantino Beltrami, an early 19th century Italian jurist, scholar and explorer who discovered the source of the Mississippi. The neighborhood has also be host to a variety of immigrant settlers—with the Swedes, followed by the Italians, Poles, and other ethnic groups. Between 1857 and 1890, Beltrami Park was the Maple Hill Cemetery which included the graves of Civil War veterans (many remains were moved to the nearby Hillside Cemetery.)

Homes in the neighborhood are single-family dwellings and low-rise multifamily buildings. Most were built before the Second World War.
