Kingfield is largely a residential area of single-family houses with some multiple unit residences and apartment buildings that sit on tree-lined streets. There are several commercial corners with businesses to serve the residents of Kingfield with a variety of goods and services. The Kingfield neighborhood has a reputation as a place where the people are willing to volunteer to create and maintain a vital, caring and safe place for those who live and work here.  The neighborhood hosts a summer Farmer’s Market and an annual art show. Kingfield is well served by bike lanes, transit and has easy connections to downtown and the rest of the region via I-35W.

Prior to annexation by the City of Minneapolis in 1887, the Kingfield neighborhood was farm country. In 1887, the southern border of Minneapolis was extended from 38th Street to 54th Street and Kingfield was incorporated into the city. 

Housing Styles and Types

Most homes in the neighborhood were built before 1920 and include Bungalows, Prairie-style, Arts and Crafts and other period-revival styles.  Pre-war apartment buildings are also located throughout the neighborhood.
