Bryant is a small neighborhood in South Minneapolis that has easy access to downtown via I-35 and striped bike lanes along Park and Portland Avenues and boasts modestly-priced home in a variety of styles.  Phelps Park and Recreation Center provide residents of all ages with recreational opportunities as does nearby Powderhorn Park.  38th Street offers neighborhood retail opportunities and residents are working to continually enhance this commercial corridor by offering façade improvement grants, participating in city-led planning and revitalization efforts.

History

The neighborhood was named for William Cullen Bryant, a great American poet who lived from 1794 to 1878. The neighborhood area was incorporated by the City in 1887, and by 1930 it was fully developed.  

Housing Styles and Types

Bryant is a predominantly residential neighborhood with mostly single-family dwellings built primarily before World War II.  Multi-family buildings are largely located in the neighborhood’s northwestern quadrant.

To get involved with the Bryant Neighborhood Organization, call: 612-824-3453.  Board meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm at the Phelps Park Recreation Center.
