The Sheridan neighborhood is located in Northeast Minneapolis and downtown is just one mile south along the trails and paths in our expanding riverside parks. The Grain Belt Area complex, adjacent to Sheridan Memorial Park on the river, is a multi-use facility which includes a public library, coffee shop, artist studios and a nationally recognized architectural firm. The heart of Sheridan neighborhood is the commercial corridor along 13th Ave.NE which has emerged in recent years as one of the city's top arts and entertainment destinations while maintaining it's very safe and cozy small town character. Sheridan is full of people that enjoy the diversity of an urban lifestyle—and going green—as 30% of households are automobile-free!

History

Parts of the Sheridan neighborhood were included in the town of St. Anthony, which was incorporated into Minneapolis in 1872. Early settlers in the neighborhood included immigrants from Eastern Europe, who established a lively commercial strip on the former streetcar route along13th Ave. N.E. and a major brewery on Marshall Street. In modern times 13th Ave. NE is referred to as "Arts Avenue" and lined with galleries and a rehabilitated Grain Belt Brewery and Ritz Theater.

Housing Styles and Types

Most of the homes in the Sheridan Neighborhood were built between 1890 -1930 with a variety of home styles to choose from. There is a healthy mix of single-family and multifamily housing which sets the stage for a diverse and healthy community.
