Folwell is one of seven neighborhoods in northwest Minneapolis’ Camden Community. Serving as the hub for parks and recreation, the 27-acre Folwell Park is the centerpiece for neighborhood activity with five baseball diamonds, four tennis courts, two basketball courts and a community center. The neighborhood is primarily residential and is centrally located in North Minneapolis. Access to downtown Minneapolis is easy and convenient and shopping opportunities are available along West Broadway Avenue. Boundaries and Zip CodeNorth: Dowling Avenue North HistoryFollowing the expansion of Minneapolis’ streetcar network along Lowry Avenue North, residential housing development was spurred in what came to be known as the Folwell neighborhood. It’s named after the first president of the University of Minnesota and past president of the Minneapolis Park Board, Dr. William W. Folwell. Residential development occurred largely after 1917 in architectural styles that were popular during that period. Housing Styles and TypesBuilt largely in the second decade of the 20thcentury, the Folwell neighborhood is primarily single family homes, built in a traditional neighborhood form. A majority of the homes are built in a bungalow or craftsman style and are either one or one-and-a-half stories in height. Alleys are prominent throughout the neighborhood with access to garages that are detached from the main house. SchoolsPublic Schools:
