History

In the late 1880s, with the expansion of the street car, the area transformed from farmland to a neighborhood of attractive apartment buildings, brownstones, country estates, and single family homes. The current historic district is located along the perimeter of Stevens Square Park, where 3-story brick apartment buildings played a significant role in the residential development of Minneapolis before and after World War I.
