History

In 1852 the first shingle mill in Hennepin County was built near the mouth of the creek, giving the neighborhood its name—and workers from the nearby lumbermills began to settle in the area. The neighborhood was also one of the first African American neighborhoods in the growing metropolis of Minneapolis in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Housing Styles and Types

Shingle Creek consists predominantly of bungalows and one-story ramblers that were built in the 1950s. The Humboldt Greenway project is an eclectic mix of new bungalows, craftsman-style, tudor and foursquare single-family homes and townhouses that are centered around attractively landscaped greenspace.
